Our Story<\/h1>\n

Located at the Center\u2019s flagship Anita May Rosenstein Campus, the Los Angeles LGBT Center\u2019s 1,600-square-foot Liberation Coffee House is a caf\u00e9 and community space operated and staffed by graduates of the organization\u2019s intergenerational Culinary Arts program, a three-month training program launched in 2019 to prepare LGBTQ youth and seniors from the Center for employment in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Revenue from this unique social enterprise will be reinvested into the Center\u2019s life-changing and life-saving programs and services.<\/p>\n

The Space<\/h2>\n \n

While the day\u2010to\u2010day use is a retail coffee shop, Liberation Coffee House\u2019s agile space layout can be reconfigured quickly to accommodate gallery openings, meetings, lectures, celebrations, networking mixers, and other community events.<\/p>\n \n \n \n Our Design \n\n \n<\/svg> <\/a>\n <\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

Creating Liberation for a New Generation<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div> <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

The word \u201cliberation\u201d shares a special connection with the LGBT community. During the movement\u2019s early years, activists demanded \u201cgay liberation.\u201d In 1971 the Center, known then as the Gay Community Services Center, opened its first \u201cLiberation House\u201d in Los Angeles, providing room and board for $1.50 a day for homeless LGBTQ youth and adults. It was the nation\u2019s first facility of its kind. By 1972, six Liberation Houses were open throughout Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
